An Important Note About State Regulations

Vote Run Lead Action (VRLA), a 501(c)4 organization, is excited to offer our coaching program to support your unique needs during your political journey. To ensure that your campaign remains in compliance with state-specific campaign finance laws, please review the lists of states below and evaluate whether your state’s laws require you to cover the cost (calculated at fair market value) associated with coaching, or if such services may be accepted as an in-kind contribution.

State where a fee IS required: AK, AR, AZ, CO, CT, IA, KY, MA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, RI, TX, WI, WV, WY. In these states, the law limits VRLA’s ability to provide access to our coaching program, unless candidates and campaign managers/staff pay the fair market value for coaching sessions. VRLA does not intend to provide anything of value in these jurisdictions and will not be making campaign contributions.

States where a fee IS NOT required: AL, CA, DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, KS, LA, MD, MS, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, SC, SD, TN, UT, VA, VT, WA. Please note that although VRLA will not be charging campaigns in these jurisdictions for the coaching services, state or local law may treat these services as an in-kind contribution to your campaign (both for candidates and campaign managers/staff). It is incumbent on the campaign to determine whether these services need to be disclosed to the appropriate regulatory body as an in-kind corporate contribution.

VRLA does not provide legal or compliance guidance. We recommend you seek guidance on relevant campaign finance laws in your state. Should you sign up for coaching from a state that does not require a fee, you will receive information about the fair market value of the service for filing purposes.
